Call of Duty Warzone vs Cheaters: Everything You Need to Know

314,950 Players Are Searching for Cheats on Warzone Every Month – Learn More About Our Research and the Upcoming Anti-Cheat

The new Warzone anti cheat ‘RICOCHET’ is due to arrive at the end of the month, and to say we’re all looking forward to it would be an understatement. After surviving 18 months of aim botting and your enemy being able to see you through walls, I think we’re all ready for some uninterrupted, FAIR gameplay on Call of Duty. While we are just as excited as you to play in a Verdansk free of cheaters, we also saw this as an excuse to do some digging!

More players are looking for cheats than actually playing the game!

At the moment, it feels like you’re almost running into a hacker every single game, so we wanted to find out just how bad Warzone’s cheating problem is. According to charlieintel.com, Activision have banned over 800,000 accounts, but our research suggests Ricochet have some serious work on their hands to deal with the issue properly. We found out that over 300,000 players worldwide are still looking to buy and download cheats every single month! The total (314,950) was even higher than the active player count at the time of the research. We’re all surprised, or are we?

We worked this out by using accessible Google data to work out how many people are searching for ‘Warzone hacks’ or other related searches around the world. These related searches could be for aim bots, wall hacks or cheating sites notorious for selling Warzone enhancements around the world. These sites included Battlelog.co, Engineowner and Skycheats, that offer a range of downloadable cheats that include unlocks, invincibility, aim bots, wall hacks and other enhancements that give players a distinct advantage.

Who’s responsible for bringing all the cheaters to Verdansk?

We couldn’t stop there though, could we?! Since the data could also be specific to locations, we thought it was about time someone assigned some blame. United States, we’re looking at you… Yes, our friends over in the US have far more cheaters in Warzone than any other country around the world, with 197,000 online searches for aim bots, wall hacks and cheating websites coming from the other side of the Atlantic.

We’re hardly free from blame though, behind France (32,700 online searches), the United Kingdom has the third most cheaters who plague our beloved Warzone. There are 31,000 online searches for cheats every month from players who live in the UK. We gathered data for 17 countries who regularly use Google to find downloadable cheats, you can see a full list below:

  1. US 197K monthly searches
  2. France 32.7k monthly searches
  3. United Kingdom 31k monthly searches
  4. Germany 24k monthly searches
  5. Canada 13k monthly searches
  6. Australia 9.2k monthly searches
  7. India 2.2k monthly searches
  8. Belgium 900 monthly searches
  9. Sweden 820 monthly searches
  10. Russia 780 monthly searches
  11. Switzerland 630 monthly searches
  12. Norway 600 monthly searches
  13. Spain 480 monthly searches
  14. Romania 360 monthly searches
  15. South Africa 260 monthly searches
  16. Mexico 220 monthly searches
  17. Portugal 80 monthly searches

The top spots were all dominated by English-speaking countries, with France and Germany making up the other positions. The world would be a better place if everyone was as fair as the gamers in Portugal!

When is the anti-cheat coming to Warzone? Everything you need to know…

The severity of the problem has us all asking ‘when does the Warzone anti-cheat come out?’, we‘ve got all the answers. Despite Activision banning cheats in multiple ban waves, players have been calling for a better anti-cheat system to further combat the problem, and Activision have recently released more details on the new RICOCHET Anti-Cheat that will be coming to Call of Duty: Warzone & Vanguard later this month.

The anti-cheat system will be released for Vanguard when it’s launched on November 5, but Warzone players will have to wait a little longer. The anti-cheat will arrive for Warzone with the release of the new map “Caldera”, which is going to be accessible to all players on Friday, December 3rd. The anticipation for the new map is already very high as Warzone has remained fairly unchanged since April, the added security of an anti-cheat could mean the popular battle royale will be in a very good place by Christmas!

A blog post from Call of Duty themselves states that the “RICOCHET Anti-Cheat is a multi-faceted approach to combat cheating”, saying that the system’s “new server-side tools” will “monitor analytics to identify cheating”. Ricochet will also allow for “enhanced investigation processes to stamp out cheaters and strengthen account security”.

The RICOCHET system will also use a PC kernel-level driver, the first of its kind in any Call of Duty game. Every player who plays Warzone on PC will have to download this driver in order to access the game, the PC kernel-level driver will “assist in the identification of cheaters, reinforcing and strengthening overall server security”. It does this by checking “software and applications that attempt to interact and manipulate Warzone, providing the security team with more data to boost security”.

There have been some security concerns regarding the kernel aspect of the anti-cheat, Activision addressed this by revealing the following:

  • RICOCHET Anti-Cheat’s kernel-level driver operates ONLY while playing Call of Duty: Warzone on PC
  • RICOCHET Anti-Cheat’s driver is not always on
  • RICOCHET Anti Cheat’s driver monitors the software and applications that interact with Call of Duty: Warzone
  • When you shut down Call of Duty: Warzone, the driver turns off

Finally, the RICOCHET Anti-Cheat team states that the system will be using Machine Learning (ML) software which use “algorithms” to “examine gameplay data from the server, helping to identify suspicious behaviour trends, and add another layer of security”.

It certainly all sounds very promising…

When is the new map coming to Warzone? A quick look at upcoming events

If all this talk has got you excited about the release of the new map, here’s everything you should look out for in Verdansk over the coming month:

Operation Flashback mode (November 18th): This will help you relive “classic moments” from the past 18 months of Warzone in a limited-time mode.

Secrets of the Pacific event (November 24th): Intel and points of interest from the new map “Caldera” will be teased in another limited-time event. This will include challenges across both Vanguard and Warzone – such as finding and protecting artifacts.

Last Hours of Verdansk Event (November 30th to December 1st): Players have been told to “expect a spectacular and fitting end to your time in Verdansk as we say farewell to the Kastovian city… forever?”, this will be a live event in the hours leading to the release of the new map.

It’s not always been a smooth ride with Warzone, but there’s no denying it’s been one of the most successful video games of all time. With a new map and an anti-cheat on the way, it looks like players have plenty to look forward to.
