Shang-Chi Movie Trailer
Who is Shang-Chi?
Despite debuting in the bronze age of comics, Shang-Chi is still one of the lesser-known characters in the Marvel universe. But, the MCU is great at taking slightly more obscure characters and making them household names. Right, Ant-Man and Captain Marvel?
So, while we’re all super excited to see our latest household hero take centre stage in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, let’s first take a quick look at the comics version.
Shang-Chi first appeared in Special Edition Marvel #15 in December of 1973. But, it wasn’t until 1983 that he got his own book. This was likely because martial arts were really taking off in the ‘80s, giving us loads of classic movies and pop culture.
So, that’s a super brief history of how Shang-Chi became one of Marvel’s solo characters. But, who is he and what is he all about?
Well, simply put, Shang-Chi is the Master of Kung Fu. He literally throws down like he’s a mixture of Mr Miyagi and Jean-Claude van Damme. He’s the son of a renowned criminal in the Chinese underworld, and was initially trained to be an assassin. But, after a run-in with a British agent, Shang-Chi became aware of his wrongdoings and started on a path to take down his father.
As far as powers go, Shang-Chi has mad skills in hand-to-hand combat. He’s basically a living weapon. And, speaking of weapons, he can wield nunchaku, swords, sticks, and shuriken better than the Ninja Turtles. Oh snap, we went there.
But, Shang-Chi does also have a superhuman ability to harnesses his internal energy, or chi, to give him an edge when fighting. This lets him gain complete control over his instincts – enough that he can become fast enough to dodge bullets.
So, there’s a little more about our newest marvel hero, but we're sure we will learn a lot more about him when he takes to our screens in the Shang-Chi movie.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Plot
Officially named Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the Shang-Chi movie will likely follow a similar plot to the comics. Expect to see Shang-Chi confronting the demons of his past as he’s drawn into the Ten Rings Organisation, which you may remember from 2008’s Iron Man.
Other than that, we don’t know too much. And, we don’t want to drop a mad load of spoilers on you anyway. But, we can tell you one thing that may not be a surprise… expect there to be more fights than you’d see outside a nightclub on a Saturday night.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Cast
Taking on the role of Shang-Chi is Chinese-Canadian actor Simu Liu. This is a breakout role for him, a bit like Chris Hemsworth in Thor, so we’re really expecting him to bring it.
Joining him is Awkwafina, who will be taking on the role of Katy, who is Shang-Chi’s loyal friend.
Also joining the cast is Tony Leung Chiu-wai, who importantly is playing… wait for it… the Mandarin! Yes, the real Mandarin is finally making an appearance. Now we get to see the might of the real Ten Rings. Though, Ben Kingsley is making an appearance as Trevor Slattery, presumably to pass the torch and provide some comic relief.
We’ll also see Fala Chen as Leiko Wu, Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, and Florian Munteanu as Razor Fist. Plus, look out for Tim Roth returning as Abomination and Benedict Wong as Wong.
We know the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings cast will bring their A-game for the latest marvel movie release and we cannot wait for the premiere!

Where does Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings fit into the MCU?
We know that Phase 4 of the MCU is dedicated to setting up a multiverse. And, we’ve seen this unfolding already in Loki and WandaVision. But, we know that the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will really delve into the multiverse. And, since Wong appears in the Shang-Chi movie, will he be immediately pulled in?
Plus, the physical Ten Rings of the Mandarin in the comics are not unlike the Infinity Stones. So, will we have a new set of immensely powerful gems to worry about? Fortunately, we don’t have to wait long for answers.
