Stranger Things season 4 release date
Stranger Things season 4’s release date in the UK is May 27, 2022.
As always, it will release on Netflix. But, this time it will be released in two parts, or volumes. Volume 1 will come out on the 27th of May while Volume 2 will drop five weeks later on July 1, 2022.
This is a step away from season 3, which was released all at once. However, the Duffer brothers, creators of the show, have revealed that it has a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season. So, it’s almost like we’re getting two seasons in a really short time. That’s how we’re spinning it, anyway.

Stranger Things season 4 plot
The story of season 4 is intended to pick up around 6 months after the Battle of Starcourt – the epic finale to season 3. For the first time since they all came together, the group of friends is separated, all struggling with the fallout on their own. And, to make matters worse, they’re in high school, which is hard enough when you aren’t being hunted by demonic creatures from a dark dimension.
While everyone else is just battling acne and rejection, our core heroes have to face a new threat that emerges from the Upside Down. It brings with it a mystery that could finally put all the mayhem to rest… IF they can solve it.
We know from the trailer that there is a war shaping up. Is it the Russian threat, or is it a supernatural war? Either way, it can’t be won without Eleven. But, we learn that her telekinetic powers have gone on holiday. That’s bound to make things tricky.
We also know that Hopper makes a bigger comeback than Travolta with Pulp Fiction. In fact, it’s on a mythical level. Actor David Harbour has likened his return to Gandalf in Lord of the Rings. Was Hopper’s sacrifice in season 3 his Balrog moment? We’ll have to wait to find out.
Finally, we know that we’ll see a little more of 1980s America than just Hawkins in this season. We know that there was some filming done in New Mexico, which could easily be made to look like other desert states, like California, Nevada, or Texas. But, New Mexico is the home of Roswell, which is famous for a supposed alien crash site and military base. Could aliens be making an appearance? Some fans think so. But, we’ll wait and see.

So, no big surprises here. The main cast is returning for season 4. We’ve got Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike, Noah Schnapp as Will, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas, and Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin. We’re also sure that Winona Ryder will be back as Joyce, and, as we’ve already revealed, David Harbour will be back as Jim Hopper.
We also know that Joe Keery as the beloved Steve, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, and Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield are all signed on.
But, we’ve got a healthy list of newcomers as well, which was revealed on the official Stranger Things Instagram account.
Firstly, Jamie Campbell Bower will be joining the cast as a regular character named Pater Ballard, who’s a caring orderly working in a psychiatric hospital.
In addition to Bower, we’ll be seeing Amybeth McNulty as Vicky, a band nerd who might be a romantic interest for one of the main characters. We’ll meet Myles Truitt as Patrick, who is a Hawkins basketball player, we’re assuming befriended by Lucas, if the trailer isn’t being misleading. Regina Ting Chen will come in as Ms Kelly – a caring guidance counsellor who, let’s face it, could provide some much-needed help to the show’s heroes. Lastly, we’ll see Grace van Dien as Chrissy, who’s a Hawkins High cheerleader holding onto a dark secret.
