With WandaVision delighting Disney+ viewers, we can’t wait for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Here’s everything we know about it so far!
Heads up: this article has more spoilers than Bucky Barnes has birthdays.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier release date
Originally scheduled to hit Disney+ in autumn of 2020, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was going to be the first of the MCU TV shows and would have kicked off Phase 4 after Black Widow was rescheduled.
But, a worldwide adventure is pretty hard to shoot when you can’t travel the world because of a pandemic. So, naturally, shooting was hugely affected. That means The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was also postponed.
So, what’s the new release date? It is scheduled to hit Disney Plus on 19 March 2021.
What we know about the plot
Most of what we know about the plot of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier we’ve pieced together from the trailer, leaks, theories, and eavesdropping on other people’s conversations while they thought we were playing around with Snapchat filters.
Where does that leave us? Well, Disney+ has told us that it’s a global adventure that will test the abilities and patience of Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. It also tells us that it takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
This all makes sense, since Endgame saw Cap passing his shield on to his successor, Sam Wilson. And, the trailer shows Sam practicing with said shield… or taking his Frisbee game to the next level.
We also know from the trailer that, even though this is a TV show, the action is going to be cinematic. If Sam’s flight through a missile ridden canyon is anything to go by, the intensity is definitely going to live up to the MCU’s high standard of awesomeness.
Bringing some villainous dealings to the table will be Helmut Zemo, who last appeared in Captain America: Civil War. We know from his last appearance that he’s a master manipulator with a serious grudge, so he likely won’t take it easy on our duo of heroes.
Also, and this is mostly exciting for comic fans, we know that Baron Zemo will appear in his classic purple mask thanks to Funko’s inside information. Yep, he’s already donning it in his Pop! Vinyl form.
All in all, we’re expecting to see Steve Rogers’ two best bros do some serious bonding over the course of this show. And, will The Falcon become a fully-fledged Captain America by the end of it? We have no idea, but it would make for a seriously cool character arc.

So, first off, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be played by Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, as they were in the MCU movies up until Endgame. And we’re really looking forward to seeing more of these two interacting, especially because they’re great friends in real life.
Also from the trailer, we know that Daniel Brühl is back as Baron Zemo. He brought some serious weight to this role in Captain America: Civil War, so it’ll be interesting seeing him expand his character now that the series format give him a little more time to do it.
We also know to look out for Sharon Carter, who will once again be played by Emily VanCamp. We last saw her kissing Steve Rogers goodbye in Civil War. So, it’ll be interesting to get her take on Steve’s decision to ditch her and jump back in time to be with her great aunt, Peggy Carter, instead.
Contending for the shield and mantle of Captain America will be Wyatt Russell as US Agent. From the comics we know that US Agent, or John Walker, is an evil version of Cap and seems to be the government’s choice as his replacement, even though Steve gave his shield to The Falcon. So, we’re expecting a huge showdown there.

Lastly, we know that Batroc the Leaper will be making an appearance somewhere in the mix. We’re not sure how he’ll fit into the story, but we do know he’ll still be played by Georges St-Pierre, who played him in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
How many episodes are there and will there be a second season?
We know for sure that there are six episodes in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, has confirmed they’ll play out like a ‘cinematic experience’. And, with each episode promised to be between 40 and 50 minutes in length, we believe him.
As for season 2, well, nothing’s been officially confirmed. But, nothing’s been denied, either. In fact, whispers from insiders have hinted that a second season was definitely once in the cards. Whether it’s still a plan is unsure, but we know it would be themed to tie in with whatever is happening in the MCU at the time.
But, for now, we’re just really excited about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 1. Catch it on Disney Plus from 19 March 2021!
